Great day today, guys. Called out sick to go fishing. I caught my PB brown at 18 inches. I was fishing a 4 WT in a new-to-me spring creek, but the width, flow, and temperature are unusual for the area. I mostly fought the fish upstream, and there were many moments where it felt like I was stuck to a log. I could not feel anything but consistent, unmoving pressure for several seconds until I changed the direction of my rod, and this happened multiple times in what was at least a 60 second fight. There weren't really any obstructions that he could've gotten into. That fish made my day, and I caught several others too, all on terrestrials.
One odd thing I noticed was that one fish ate my hopper on the surface. I waited a second and set the hook. I see the trout is foul hooked way down the body. How did that happen?
P.S. Skid, your hoppers didn't work for me. They lie on their side. The Charlie Boy Hopper was the fly of the day.
P.P.S I picked up trash and was rewarded. Yesterday, I got some stupid-looking hopper and a San Juan worm. Today, I got one bent spinner, a hares ear, and an elk hair caddis. I cleaned up a bunch of line, a few cans, and a bottle. That went well.
