KH2 concluded the story that began in KH1 for the most part. Sora, Riku and Kairi got back home and defeated the remainder of Xehanort. If KH4 is the setup then KH5 can easily be the payoff and the end of the story overall as well. They might need to cram one more game in there somewhere though like a Verum Rex to bridge the two.
Unless Nomura did decide to change the direction of the series with the "incident" and KH4 has become a gigantic epilogue to the Dark Seeker Saga rather than a jumping off point to a whole other one, especially with Missing-Link being canned too. And with Sora in what is symbolically the afterlife that could work. It would be funny if the Lost Masters lost control of True Darkness pretty quickly and Sora is left to deal with the mess. Luxu is also a good final boss as someone who's been through everything and already has an established relationship with Sora unlike the other Lost Masters. With all this build up for the Master of Masters they might end up pulling the rug out from underneath us and have him not be a huge deal. I think the chessboard at the end of 3 places MoM's piece to the side of Luxu's as well.
The KH series has always been in flux on some level. Nomura's had to shelve things like Dark Road or Blank Points and repurpose other stuff. That could be happening with Lost Master Saga in some way but who knows if we'll notice when it comes out.
