Bigger problem is so much of anime/manga today runs on entirely intentional archetypes. Hell, back when harems were all the craze you could refer to character by their hair color because they were all carbon copies of particular archetype. Very few are looking for realistic or believable characters in their escapist entertainment, it seems.
