IMO it's different ways to handle it.
DB is more macho so there's less words and personal drama and more action, but there definitely are certain key moments that give the story, characters and the world in which they exist a great sense of genuine substance. Or maybe it's just being clever with the direction (both on manga or anime) and how certain scenes and setpieces can become iconic and connect with people on an emotional level.
