Shit lighting will ruin your photos, but not like that. I'm using my monitor as a light source here, and I can create the same overexposed result, even though I can barely see Mami with my eyes.

Just follow the other anon's advice. Go read a beginner's guide or watch a video. Put your camera on a table or something, and then play with it in manual mode.
Also, ring lights fall into shit lighting category, so don't use it unless you really need it.
