Comics are not owned by their creators, and the people who create them are chosen by editors. A single comic story can have any number of writers and artists coming and going in and out, of course all with no communication between eachother as usual.

But this creates an unexpected and far worse effect than anyone could have ever imagined.
Spite.
It's natural that in any industry, other creators are envious or hateful of another, but in manga they can't really do anything about it other than maybe make the villain in their manga resemble the person they don't like.
But in comics, if someone doesn't like another person, they can get work on that persons comic, and then deliberately ruin it.

>that ominous villain who you've been teasing the identity reveal of, building up to something big?
haha screw you I just took their mask off and revealed they're a completely uninteresting character

Many many comics have been ruined by internal drama like this
