They did this in Warbringers as well
I would chalk it up to Blizzard's nonstop churn, eventually you have enough artists and writers that just want to remove everything unique about Warcraft's aesthetic or setting and replace it with very easily digestible D&D content that someone new can start working on in an instant. Though really this problem is affecting the whole fantasy genre now
