the former sounds a bit like cheap meta for me, but I'm with you in the later. He was so fun in The Return of Harmony because he was an deceitful asshole who would do anything he wanted if he felt like it. It's hard to make him "chaotic" when ethics limit his potential. Make New Friends but Keep Discord is a post-redemption episode I truly like because he's allowed (at least more than usual) to be a jerk without a leash forcing him to larp as a the Aladdin's Genie. I also love Señor Huevos, but that's another topic.
