The parents I was born to got married in a church where all it took for the pastors and congregation to believe a couple of people would be good parents and should get married is if they could speak in tongues, say they have strong faith in the Word and say they have strong love for God. Turns out people need to develop actual virtues and wisdom before they can call themselves proper Christians or proper parents so they don't take on serious pursuits and responsibilities without a disaster happening as a consequence of immaturity and incompetence. I don't blame my parents as much as the church and society they existed in for giving them the freedom to take on a serious pursuit like being parents without putting pressure on them to sort their shit out ahead of time like adults instead of the marriage falling apart because of baggage they failed to throw away ahead of time. It's not even the Jews fault for this problem, Americans have decided they'd rather have popcorn spectacles in their churches rather than anything that would force them to be responsible and put long term good over comfort in the present, hence nonsense like speaking in tongues.
