Obviously not the same, but you can see a lot of overlap with Monster Hunter and Demon's Souls because they were very gameplay focused titles when the rest of the AAA industry was moving away from that.

Sony in their infinite wisdom completely didn't care about the game, so they let Namco take over the spiritual successor Dark Souls, which was a suprise hit for the 360 and PC, and it just took off from there. If Demon's Souls got 360/PC release it would have sold probably another 3 million copies.

This is ultimately a GOOD thing for Fromsoft, because if it was a Sony controlled series, they would have throttled it, and it woudl have died.
