Characters in ZZZ, besides role, can be divided into "on-field" or "off-field" use. On-field characters have incentives or designs that encourage them being the active character primarily while off-field characters are designed to be used sporadically or have designs that let them attack while not the active character and/or encourage swapping. In the case of Pan, he's designed to be off-field support for Yixuan and future Rupture characters, and Yixuan is designed to be played as on-field, which is why her featured A Ranks are both Off-field characters (Pulchra can attack/build up daze while she's not being played.) Lycaon, conversely, is an on-field stunner who is meant to support burst DPS attackers that wait until the stun window. While you can field them together, the option will be suboptimal, as they don't have synergies of design compared to a team like Corin (who wants frequent stun windows for her passive) and Lycaon.
With all that said, Lycaon is probably the best S Rank out of the selector, as he has multiple strong limited S Rank options to support, even if he's not paired directly with Pan Yinhu.
