Reanna did not explicitly designate a heir; she simply stated that "the most talented theologian of the land should be the one to take my place". After a gathering of the clergy, perhaps the last influential estate remaining, it was decided that the new Grandmaster should become Serek silna Lence, head of the Historians' Guild.
Serek was a well-read man, author of over 100 published works, ranging from contemplations about the Orcish question to detailed (though somewhat embellished) accounts of Derwing's campaigns. He was now in charge of a nation rather behind in many aspects, and thus, he set out to be the one to restore Corintar's glory.
The most pressing concern to Serek was the loyalty (or rather lack of) of the estates. Just one year into his reign, his armies ventured into the Deepwoods and crushed the Barumandi army. No land was taken, as silna Lence did not want further conflict over the Deepwoods with the local powers. With this single war, he had convinced the adventurers to not immediately depose of him.
Not long after, Serek turned his attention northward, where remnants of the Orcish clans still posed a major threat to the region. Around 1550, Serek would begin a series of wars ("The Northern Campaign") aimed at pushing the last Orcish clans in Escann back to the Serpentspine. They were a great success, and by 1554, the Corintari domain reached all the way to Gawed.
With practically no Orcish state left in Escann to intervene in Corintar's Orcish affairs, the Grandmaster could commence his solution to the Orcish question. He viewed genocide as impractical; the Orcs were good soldiers and strong workers. Serek's policy instead looked like this: the "Redtusk" Orcs that had arrisen during Reanna's rule would be given partial self-governance in their wooded valley. The rest of the Orcish territories would be split up between the Nobility, Clergy, and the Adventurers, as had been promised to them all the way back when Derwing was in charge.
