I actually planned for the exodus since the beginning because I wanted to RP as a nation who's lost their homeland. That English war declaration only sped it up. I'm a pirate republic. Raiding coastlines is what mainly kept my economy afloat since I had no real power base until now, but it almost wasn't enough. Being a pirate republic also means that I have the same gov cap malus as merchant republics (+75% gov cap cost in states). Those provinces I sold were mainly conquered for colonial range. I stated them for some short-term benefit but I'd have to unstate them at some point either way. They'd take up too much gov cap and give me too little stuff. Selling them back to the natives I conquered them from for a lot of money was definitely worth it. I'm gonna keep Greenland, though. It's going to be a good staging point for an invasion to eventually retake Ireland. I'll think about going into Mexico now. I didn't have enough colonial range to reach there previously.
