Only because the plasma gun exists and has a dedicated fire mode for shitting on Auxilia infantry with zero risk to yourself while still working fairly well into space marines.

All other anti auxilia weapons are either overcosted or just bad when used on marines, Plasma guns were balanced and priced to fight marines and are also incidentally extremely good against auxilia.
