Back in the day, while there was very superficial fashion, most dressed based on what genuinely interested them, and even dressed without caring about what they wore (nowadays, it's a sin).
Nowadays, there's no chance of a tribe; everyone is a copy of a copy.

There are different trends today, but they are short-lived, and are based on status, money, sex, and in the algorithm.
