They've already demoted the FF's roles. Ben and Johnny were already staying behind with the no-names, and Sue was never mentioned in any leaks, but Fagscal was primed as a secondary protagonist and Shakman was talking about him leading the Avengers. The more projections hit, the more they "corrected" those quotes. Now according to the most recent rumours he's nowhere near the supporting leads. And the first Doomsday Avengers Wave doesn't have him in it. The leads are RDJ, Hemsworth and Marsden, with apparently Pullman having a big role as well.
If they downplay all the failed characters, and focus on just RDJ, Thor and Sentry, all characters people like, plus the FoX-Men for nostalgia, they can salvage it.

Ugly actors that nobody cares for playing D-Listers that nobody is invested in, stuck in bad movies from a filmmaking perspective. Nobody's kids are lining up to watch Pedro Pascal play himself. Nobody knows who "black guy with wings is". Thunderbolts was actually pretty cool, but they were all D-List supporting characters.
They need to use Secret Wars to reboot with some attractive, lesser known people. The MCU got built with AAA names in supporting roles and handsome B/C-Listers in the starring ones. They need to go back to that.

>have the X-Men be a mix of ages

There, all their problems are fixed. They made everyone ugly. Namor for example is characteristically handsome, and they made him a literal fat wetback beaner midget.
This year's only breakout character was Sentry, and that's why he's being set up as one of the leads of Doomsday, whereas Fagscal is getting his role downsized.

According to leaks and rumours, these are the leads of Doomsday. FF underperforming had them cut the FF's scenes and Pascal is no longer among the leads but has a role similar to Mackie's. RDJ is the clear protagonist with Hemsworth the heroic protagonist, Marsden representing the X-Men, and Pullman is the big mcguffing Doom manipulates to get to Loki.
