I was just playing in group A, and it says I need 3 wins to advance to Group B. Is that a bug? Shouldn't you automatically advance to Group B finals no matter what as group A? After I lost my third match it also stopped saying anything about me advancing to Group B as well.

Group A is actually good since it guarantees you a spot at the group B finals even if you lose literally every match. So making it to Group A you have basically already guaranteed yourself the emblem.
You don't lose anything by going group A if you can.
