Whenever they've been in comparable cars Russell almost always gets the better of Verstappen. Look at Canada this year. Merc weren't in a tier of their own performance-wise - Verstappen was never seriously troubled by the prodigious Antonelli in the same car as Russell - but Russell just dominated the whole race and never let Verstappen have a chance. I shouldn't even have to bring up the prior race in Spain where Russell's mere presence made Verstappen shit his pants and lose his composure completely.
Merc's considering of Verstappen is purely for marketing and social media presence reasons, George simply isn't a shuntmeister like Max is, which is better from a driving perspective but doesn't play as well from a young DTS fan perspective.
