It's rather complicated because the series has its own highs and lows, and just as many reasons to play the lows as the highs. Persona has higher quality and consistency overall but trails isn't afraid to go full retard. It also embraces the fact that cute girls are cute and doesn't surgically remove their asses for the sake of sensibility. The series has a lot of charm, but a lot more quirks and picking up the series and getting caught up on it is more or less deciding whether you want a front-row seat to the trainwreck.
I hated a lot it, but I don't consider it wasted time.
For context, I think it's also fair to point out that P Studio has put out 3 mainline games between 07 and 25
