The only way a lot of GQ makes sense is if it had originally been written as a 2 cour show than cut down later. Deux looks like and gets marketed like an important secondary character when she has less screentime than Shiiko, the Tristars, and the Pomeranians, who do not get attention. Deux would be a good contrast to Machu. Her philosophy on earning newtypism through suffering and willpower is refuted by Machu living a good life and gaining extremely potent powers with no trauma. If the two had met, Machu would drive Deux insane with rage and jealousy. It would be:

>and you have the nerve to complain
