Guernica is not a city, it's a small town (10k at that time). Also not 120, but 150 killed. The Spanish did overstate it to a tune of 1,8k (as the recieving side always does), but even soviets underplayed the casualties count by a factor 2 - reporting 800.
Anyway the point of contention was not the amount, but that the bombing didn't hit anywhere near anything of military importance.
