He said that Kenny was supposed to be the leader of the community Luke and the cabin survivors fled from, but this idea was scrapped in favor of creating an antagonist in Carver.

funny how they almost ruined this character multiple times but still managed to not to (his death in S3 was frustrating but at least it was pretty heroic and in-character)
