Even this place discusses romance content and romanceable characters far more than any other subject. Yrliet is mentioned and discussed at least 10x as much as Pasqal is, despite Pasqal being the much, much better written character.
But since most CRPGs will also not deviate from the blank slate, player created protagonist, romance content will remain in its lackluster and barebones state. Basically CRPG developers have painted themselves into a corner on this over the years, they can't remove romance without losing sales and angering a portion of their playerbase, but they can't really make the content good either due to the constraints on how CRPG protagonists are written.
