Using a machine as tool in a creative endeavour is different from using AI, the former takes skill, the latter doesn’t. I want to play videogames, watch films and tv shows, listen to music made by people, creative people who create with purpose. I don’t want to consume something shat out by an unthinking AI programme that’s just copying thousands of other people’s work and haphazardly applying it at the command of a lazy prompter.
When I love media created by people, I gain respect and admiration for those people. I can’t feel any respect and admiration for an AI, an unthinking, unfeeling, programme that’s just acting on code. And I certainly don’t feel any respect or admiration for the lazy, uncreative prompters who are shitting up arts and culture with AI slop.
