I actually feel this way sometimes. Like, what's the great uncharted territory left? We have like a 40-film series featuring every Marvel character ever, we have multiple takes on Batman and Superman, we have 20+ James Bond films, like 100 hours of Star Wars content (most of it bad), we have adaptations of all the Harry Potter Books, we've already made what are probably the best adaptations of LOTR anyone can realistically make (theoretically, it could be done better and more faithfully but it would never happen IRL), we've got different Ninja Turtles for every generation since the 90's, multiple versions of Sherlock Holmes, probably like 100 versions of Dracula and Frankenstein, Disney did pretty much every fairy tale there is and then did them all again as live action...anything noteworthy has been done and anything tat was successful has been done over and over again.
Seriously, what's left. I wouldn't say no to a big budget, properly done version of the Gormeghast books or Moby dick but the former is too weird to spend money on and the latter would just be another version of something that's already been done. And both have been done on tv fairly recently.
I kinda feel like all that's left is originals and botched versions of old things. And there's like four or five fucking writers / directors on earth who have any good ideas and Nolan is the only one who can call his own shot. Everything from now on will either be lazy Brand exploitation, woke remakes or the occasional original film that 90% of the public will ignore even if it's good.
Like, if Disney just doesn't make any more moves form this point forward, what are we going to miss?
