I would argue that a lie has been possible since the beginning and that what we "know" about the past ( and the present for that matter) is debatable at best. And that there is nothing new under the sun. What was possible for God then is possible for God now and always. IMO people need to be a lot more careful about what they think they "know" and what they believe, especially when it comes to things that they were not a part of, like the past before their birth or the hearts and minds of their neighbors. I'm not arguing that there is no objective truth in the world, but critical thinking skills and connection to Truth are something that the enemy has been attacking since the garden, and successfully so. God will reveal all things to His children on His schedule, the devil knows this and tries to undermine God by giving us knowledge while keeping wisdom from us. And he will also flat out lie.
And I am not assuming that the reign already happened. I am believing in the possibility that it could have. Again, there is a lot of evidence that that may be the case for anyone who is actually looking.
As far as technology being the only way the whole world could see His coming, I think you are underestimating Gods ability, and overstating the power of our current and future tech.
