It's been talked about before in these threads earlier on
I think "hate" might be too strong of a word, but idk, im not azuma and am not clear on everything he's ever said about it
But he was apparently dissapointed with the tone of the adaption and how it significantly alters the pacing of most of the jokes. The issue is that you cant just adapt a 4koma directly. If you do that it will just end up being a shitty anime and a waste of animation. Their decision to turn it into a more SoL type cgdct was correct and they did they best they could. It's similar to how kyoani adapted k-on, I think. They're not alike in tone and pacing at all because 4komas dont fucking have any pacing. It's literally just a joke each page, there really isnt much room for creativity there. Where I think azuma is a little up his own ass is not realizing that even azumanga diaoh itself started breaking away from the 4koma and turned into 8koma, 16koma, THIRTYTWO BIT KOMA, later on as he wanted to tell longer story beats and jokes. The second half of the manga is better for it and the anime itself reflected that as it also gets better in the second half because it naturally comes more in line with the source. Yotsuba would fit perfectly as an anime because it's already in a format that allows for direct and easy translation into movement. There's no need to think about the moments inbetween each panel or how the jokes connect to eachother to make a longer story for a 20m ep, it's already ready to be animated. All that being said, I would ONLY accept a yotusba anime if it was made by a titan in the industry like Kyoani or Madhouse and I would rather yotsuba end first so that it can be a complete adaption from start to finish (this also means that I hope there never is an adaption because I hope yotsuba never ends)
