Pic unrelated, sort of

Long story short my car is shot. Head gasket failure and potential rear main seal leak. Not worth it for me to fix. I don't have the tools or space to fix on my own, and the cost of fixing it could get me a decent used car. Here's my dilemma.

I was work from home the last few years, but recently took a job and I think the commute killed my car. It wasn't a bad commute, just a few miles. But basically every day I was driving my car 5 or 10 miles and pretty hard since I didn't want to be late to work. I heard that doing a lot of short trips like this can fuck the engine over with short heat cycles which basically warp things and can lead to these kind of leaks.

Problem is, I live in the city, and I moved even closer to my job. I might stop driving to work altogether, and just walk or take an e-scooter when I get it fixed, but I'm still going to drive my car to the grocery store and to see my parents once a week and they're about 10 miles away on the highway.

All this is to say that I just don't drive very much these days. I rent an apartment, so getting an EV is out of the question since I can't charge at home. Is a Hybrid my best option? I don't really want one, but more than anything I don't want to get a car and then cause damage to it's engine with the way that I drive. Also, are there any hybrids which are full size rear wheel drive sedans? thanks
