>Persuant to your orders, my men set out from our landing zone in Montreal and southward, relieving a portion of the 18th Indian Division which had captured the small town of Burlington on the shores of Lake Champlain. There, we were engaged by a Union raiding force. The forces under my command consisted of my own rifle platoon, a half-section from the 18th Indian which insisted on staying behind, a section of 25 pounder guns from the Royal Artillery, a universal carrier platoon from the Motor Regiment, and a single Cromwell tank from the 7th Armored, apparently the sole survivor of the platoon assigned to take the town.

While their intention was clearly to push my forces out of Burlington before we could truly settle in, the artillery section under Lieutenant Kyle was already established, and were able to suppress much of the American infantry. The Union Hellcat was able to destroy our Cromwell, but one of my own mortar platoons were able to destroy it in turn, dropping a shell into its open-topped turret which ignited a fire. The enemy were not able to overcome the mix of fire from my own rifle platoon and the close support of Lieutenant Kyle's 25-pdrs.
