Unless you're a faggot tourist I don't see how Van knowing most of the characters and the events can be annoying. If you're a long time fan who started with sky it actually feels rewarding to finally have a protagonist who isn't some kid who needs to learn about things we as the players already know about. I just wish falcom would stop doing their retarded character reintroductions all the time.
On the other hand I do think that Renne x Van retconning was a bit shameless on falcom's part. I mean the way Renne treats Van you'd assume she'd talk about him non-stop in Zero/Ao or at least in Hajimari (because at that time falcom were already making Kuro 1). With the whole time loop/reset shenanigans I think falcom can actually make these retcons somewhat justifiable by doing something like "akshually all the previous games were in the 19998th reset where Van and the other 4 demon lords didn't appear yet"
