In the first and second season the world building was wonderful. Gems had their own culture and a neoclassical aesthetic and the magical element to them was still present and thriving, but as the series grew both of these got phased out and replaced with Sci-fi, which would have been fine, but the way they handled it was sloppy as shit. Especially the absolute eyesore homeworld turned out to be.

I started looking at all the fanfic and fanart the show had before season 4 and it didn't dawn on me until then that all of this is better than what the show turned out to be. The people in charge of SU simply did not give a shit about anything that didn't involve those boring ass townies.

Yeah, honestly when all we had to see of them were the murals they looked creepy and otherworldy. They’re literally holding planets in their hands. They seem mysterious and powerful and a far off threat not to even speak about. There was that whole thing of Pearl wanting to keep the moon base murals secret from Steven or whatever.
Then because they rushed Peridot and rushed Yellow in suddenly the diamond are middle management Karens and none are scary anymore.
