I still think that interview is fucking bullshit because a lot of Gen 2 mons were scrapped Gen 1 mons, and everyone with a brain can tell the shift with Gen 3 was what started the kinds of mons on the left. You can very much lump them together because a lot of the actual design work happened at the same time, with changes and all.
