No, it's just metaphorical. You guys are taking the "soul" thing literally. It's a poetic word for "This is the last piece of Verso's identity that is imbued in this canvas". It's not literally a soul splinter or whatever. Renoir painted hundreds of canvas, he does not have hundreds of souls hidden in other places.
