Yeah, I think it just shows how his mind is a mess, when he's with Julia, he remembers Nina, his first time was with Julia but he kept thinking back to Nina, and subconciously he began to develop feelings for Ashley, all of it is tangled and screwed up and Andrew would probably want to take it back.
It looks like he disliked sex with Julia, at least until he started to use her as an Ashley proxy, while Julia had no complaints about their sex life, while Andrew only had complaints and resentments.
I think it's also why he gets so upset and defensive when Ashley uses it aganist him, because he arguably had an even worse time dating Julia than Ashley had tolerating their relationship.
