It's a divisive hot topic. Some are ADAMANT that Cranky, Lady, and Jumpman are the grandparents of DK, Pauline, and Mario respectively while others are adamant they're the same characters and they WILL fight eachother to the death for it.
Personally, I'm on the "Arcade characters are the modern characters' grandparents" team
