that was truly the laissez-faire period. nowadays, if someone on questden (aka tgchan) for example rolled to do something that really fucked up the narrative, up to and including just outright ending the quest, he'd just be ignored.
which is frankly for the better, and probably a result of quests now being longer and more planned-out compared to the much shorter and wackier ones of the past; but the quality of having someone suggest "rape and kill [important secondary character] for no reason" and the protagonist actually doing it was fun
