I forgot to mention the best part and the main reason I replied: it’s all FREE. Extensive forest roads, marked trails, beaten paths, clear signs telling you at what point you can’t drive anymore or can now start a campfire, so on and so forth, hours and hours driving into the mountains. You can stop almost anywhere and just walk or camp and if you make a mistake the forest service is very lenient here. All of it you can open carry a firearm if you’re able to own one (citizen or friend of a citizen with a note of permission from him)
