Not sure what you mean about visible on the table but I do think special rules need to be tied to something that makes sense. Ie: lethal hits on a weapon because their ammo or their blade has a poison that can bypass natural toughness. Having a random commander give out lethal hits just because is gamey and breaks immersion. 30k does this very well. It also has like zero re-rolls which is nice.
