Chapter icon goes onto the left pauldron as a rule because that's the shoulder facing the enemy when a marine is firing his signature bolter. That way the enemy knows who exactly killed them.
The kneepads are typically used for squad/company markings in codex compliant chapters.

my armies lore is that they are essentially slayers. the berserks are exiles that have been offered a chance to return to the ancestor core when they die and have their memories uploaded, but only if they die in combat in service to the league. and the little ironkyn that joins them is known as "the witness", and is there to ensure no exile attempts to cheat their way into the ancestor core, and must die a glorious battle death.

Cthonian Beserks aren't slayers. They're miners, oil rig workers, that sort of thing. And when somebody needs a smashing they pick up their work tools and go smash them. That's communicated very well in their models, their weapons are hammers and boring equipment.

That's another reason a Votann Dreadnought should be Cthonian, it would fit as a kind of heavy industry vehicle.

Forge = Main manufacturing facilities.

As expected GW ended up telling me to go fuck myself on the missing head/cloak bit from the sprue, as I was painting him in my chapter colors anyways figured it'd just be best to swap parts here and there and shave off some iconography, had a spare recasted wolf pelt fortunately to cut up for the missing cloak piece. Painting will hopefully start tomorrow after I greenstuff

Like I said still have to apply greenstuff and probably glue some brass etched runes on because why not, maybe I should shave the wolf skull off the stormbolter for that. The bits are currently held together with tack, head and the central portion/head of the cloak will be painted separate along with the wolves.

Just make yakisoba for a week and use the savings to buy plastic evil space robits.
This makes two large servings.

>1x large celery stalk cut in thirds and julienned
>1/2 large onion sliced
>1 large carrot peeled into ribbons via veggie peeler(easier than chopping consistently)
>2-3 instant ramen pouches of your choice(shin ramyun is peak)
>2 cloves of garlic diced/1 heaping tsp jarlic
>1 tsp ginger paste
>2 tbsp peanut oil/veggie oil
Sauce
>1/2cup onions sauce
>1/4cup rice wine vinegar(substitute with white vinegar or pickle juice)
>1/4cup of ketchup
>1/4cup of oyster sauce(substitute with Worcestershire/hoisin)
>2 tsp of garlic powder
>1 tsp of onion powder
>1 heaping tsp brown sugar(sub with honey/maplesyrup/white sugar)
>2 Ramen seasoning packets

Fill a pot with hot water from your tap and place on high. Prep your veg + meat. Heat oil in a wok on high heat, while waiting mix sauce ingredients. Throw ginger and garlic into oil, stir fry for 30secs. Throw chicken into wok, tossing nonstop to coat chicken in your oil. Cook until chicken is no longer visibly pink on the outside. Toss your noodles into your boiling water. At the same time toss veg into your wok and stir fry for 1-2minutes tossing regularly. Make a well in your stirfry ingredients, pushing chicken and veg to edges of wok. Drain noodles. Pour half the sauce into the center. Throw noodles on top, then top noodles with sauce. Toss until evenly coated. Serve. Top with green onions and sesame seeds if you have them. Can also be made spicy by throwing a tbsp of chili flake into your oil at the very beginning(dont go crazy the first time you try this, chili flake is highly variable in spice content). You can eat really really cheap if you take advantage of strong flavors and piles of starches. You can also find the yakisoba sauce in the international aisle or ethnic markets if it's an option, but isn't always available.

Meat tastes good especially braised and white rice is a good side, it is also cheaper and better than noodles with chicken.
You can use the liquid from the braise to make an easy sauce as well.
If you really want some vegetables then air fry some carrots and tomatoes or something.
You will not beat this in terms of it's high stats in ease of cooking, price, health, taste, and lack of hands on time needed while cooking.

These guys are genuinely so cool I would play an entire army of them. These appeal to me on some fundamental level I can't explain, the silhouette just maxes out the cool factor to me. I do think Votann are neat but this isn't really about interest in Votann so much as just this kit in particular. The wargear is also ALL very cool to me, plasma blades, bolt pistols and disintegrators is tickles my brain just right. I know they can be lead by a Memnir stratagist but he doesn't really look that cool to me. I feel there aren't really a lot of sillouhettes in warhammer of big guys who have a more lithe but armored style. These guys look fast, unlike most armored units which look like if they fall over they can't get back up. These look both functional in a day to day sense of asking one to help load your truck while still preserving the dedicated martial aspect. Personally I think I would move the head mounted gun from the leader to the shoulder and do a roman command mohawk to match the plasma sword which looks like a gladius.

Maybe one day I'll just pick them up as an art project.

If I had to wager a guess as to why they stopped it may have been because people wanted background and even expected background miniatures to be in the box.

But it would be amazing if 40k utilized the IA diorama photography style in codexes as it helps set the tone for gritty imagination while staying grounded in fantasy because we know that they are just highly edited miniature photographs.

I'd imagine that they are because a team is needed to produce those pictures. Like someone has to paint those, someone has to make a diorama for those miniatures, then someone has to be the professional photographer and it might require some awkward angles to take pictures from that might mean damaged cameras if they get dropped and finally someone has to photo edit the images.
And I think the filters that tie everything together are more deceptively complex than they actually look. I don't even know what the filters might be called in the photoshop software, maybe they are custom made ones that are commissioned as well.
