He shares a few aspects but the closest Superman-style paragon equivalent in Marvel is either Cap or collectively the Fantastic Four. In the old Roy Thomas run on Avengers and several beyond that Thor was considered by everybody the most powerful Avenger and the guy who could always turn the tide of a battle, and in-universe he's very well-liked and respected by his teammates and to a lesser extent the public. It's why this scene happened in JLA/Avengers.
