I know that this is a retarded rant, but why are calories so dumb?

>the heat energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water by 1 °C

Why is it so arbitrary? Why did we choose an unit that's related to raising the temperature of water to use in food?

Like say you look at a chocolate bar, and it's 900 calories. WTF does that even mean?

Apparently for some god forsaken reason someone decided that you need to be around ~7716.18 calories in total deficit to lose 1kg, if you invert it, 1 kcal ~= 0.000129598kg ~= 0.129598g. So why not measure things in grams? For example, hey, that 900 calorie chocolate bar, if you eat it you gain 116.64grams (if you're at TDEE, but if you're at deficit, it's the same shit, except you'll prevent 116.64 grams of weight loss instead of gaining it). If I knew it was that retardedly high I would never have eaten it.

I will be converting everything to grams in my head now(divide by 8, it's 12.5 instead of 12.96, accurate enough, if you need to make it even more accurate you can add 4% to that result which is also easy to do in your head).
