I think the hardest thing is just have motivation to keep going and just keep putting yourself in situations to force yourself to get used to japanese especially since you're not in that environment... Maybe read simple light novels with the translations and don't progress until you know what each sentence means? You can just google on how to start, any of the starting guides are fine you just need to keep grinding and progress
