A Chiefs reporter broke down film on what happened to Mahomes in the last 2 seasons where he went from a statgod in 2022 to just a very good QB in 2024.
In 2023 Mahomes played good but his receivers led the league in drops which made him not trust his WRs. This led to him not throwing with anticipation and holding on to the ball longer to make sure he was on the same page. This effectively made him slow down mentally which was fine as long as he had protection....
In 2024 his OL was shaky at LT, so he still had the slowed down hesitation of 2023 but this time he didn't have the OL to protect him. So his mind is slowed down from the lack of trust, while his legs are sped up from the lack of protection, this led to the worst performance of Mahomes career where he made uncharacteristic throws and looked human for the first time in his career.
Mind you, Mahomes had such a huge gap between himself and his peers that this decline only made him on par with his peers such as Lamar and Allen. Assuming the Chiefs new LT works out and the Chiefs get normal injury luck Mahomes could easily return back into the statgod we saw in 2022 which is the only way they beat an Eagles super team.
