I was more so talking about how those games by themselves aren't thought of as horror by people here even though most considered especially classic Doom as being horror games in the 90s. If you read The Doom Bible, Masters of Doom or John Romero's autobiography they talk about how they always intended for Doom to be a fast paced horror shooter and I think Quake is just the natural evolution of that with its Gothic aesthetics and eerie NIN score. Romero also recently appeared in the Terrorbytes documentary that was a retrospective on horror gaming as a whole and classic Doom gets talked about there and not just Doom 3 which in the modern day conversation is the only time Doom and horror gets used in the same sentence which is a shame.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I think we should be able to talk about all kinds of wads and mods even the non horror ones as long as the games themselves count as horror. I think that's the main issue is that gamers aren't always certain of what can be considered horror because it's not a gameplay genre unless it's survival horror and action and horror are also mutually exclusive according to some. Some might also make a distinction between horror themed and horror which I personally don't the same way I don't make a distinction between film and movie even though someone like Tarantino clearly does when he says Jaws is the GOAT movie but not the best film as if that means anything. Castlevania is pretty obviously a horror series in my mind for this reason since they're basically just old school Universal Monsters and Hammer Horror films but with lots of action. Idk but it's just a suggestion to maybe breathe some new life into this general.
