I like Shinjuku but I'm not going to use it as my base for a Tokyo trip. Stay in Akabane for cheaper. You get access to the Utsunomiya, Takasaki, Keihin-Tohoku, Shonan-Shinjuku, Saikyo, Nanboku, and Saitama Railway lines.
