China doesn't want to become dependent on Russia. Moreover, "influence" in terms of international relations is really about "dependency". So a lot of time your trade partners and trade deals are designed around countries where you want to improve relations, not just about economic advantages.
For example, the real reason Russia began building pipelines to Europe during the Cold War was not for the revenue, but for the influence. Russia's goal was to buy Germany off. To basically convince them to choose Russia over America.
Don't you remember the old saying about NATO... "To keep the Americans in, the Russians out, and the Germans down."
Even if Russia could make more money selling to China, from a geopolitical perspective, Russia will always favor Europe.
Do you understand? You seem to think the world is just a capitalist struggle. No it's a managed economic system based on geopolitics. The goal is not to get rich for the sake of being rich. But because money is power. The only thing that matters in this world is power.
Russia isn't poorer than western europe because they're incompetent. They're playing the geopolitical game the best way they can. Which includes a hostile west/sanctions/etc.
And for that matter, Europe is only rich because America built them up and anchored them into our financial system(see Bretton Woods, and later the petrodollar). Without America, Europe would be poorer than Africa.
