Dog shit. There are places 10000 fold better and cheaper than Japan if that's what you're looking for.
The smaller islands are better, but once again, you're better off in Thailand/Indonesia/Philippines if you're already in East Asia.
I live in Tokyo and I've been to Naha and Miyakojima, won't be coming back again, would rather fly to SEA. The plane ticket costs will be offset by accommodation and all other expenses.
