What is your preferred resource for researching, finding and booking hotels in Japan?
I've noticed booking, com is consistently the cheapest with the majority of hotels but cheaper ones exist through airline offers and special deals.
Do you chase a few dollars booking all over the internet or choose to benefit from having everything accessible on the same site?
I'm doing the golden route for my first trip to Japan this October...is it strange or a bad idea to start in Kyoto>Osaka> and go to Tokyo in the last week?
>>2794872hi anon
third trip to Japan rn, this one is 1 month (2 weeks Tokyo, 2 weeks Kyoto Osaka)
my second trip was 1 week Tokyo 1 week Kyoto Osaka
I would say that Kyoto has a lot of tourists, but there is some cool stuff to see, if you want more nature then arashiyama (especially by the monkey park / the monkey park hike is so cool and u see monkeys) is rly nice (I'm in Kyoto rn and did it today)
in tokyo i rly enjoyed Shibuya because of alpaca boba, and the food is pretty good.
Walking to gotokuji temple (lucky cat) from Shibuya is a very pleasant walk and you should 1000000% visit lucky cat
osaka is ok but stay near dotonburi street if u wanna see it, its a big city
museum of housing and living in Osaka is rly cool,
if you can a day trip to Fuji Q is worth it (huge amusement park for adults, rly fast) and the KAIYUKAN AQUARIUM IN OSAKA IS RLY GOOD
but to actually answer your question, I would say there's more to do in Tokyo than Osaka if its your first time, and its a lot easier to figure stuff out in Tokyo. If you want nature I would say that Kyoto is worth it, but over tourism is real. I would start in Tokyo, get a suica card / figure stuff out, and look on Atlas Obscura for stuff you find interesting. Rainbow bridge walk is rly cool too would recommend
>>2794859hotels.com only if you use it enough to get status
platinum can give you up to 50% off, or something like that and you get free drinks, breakfast, etc.,
(I got free cerulean lounge access bc I had spent like 5k or whatever on hotels.com when I stayed)
but if you aren't going to use one site enough to get status then booking locally is probably the best
as for finding hotels, id just find stuff you wanna do or the area you wanna be, then load up the hotels.com map or booking.com (basically same thing) or whatever map and shop around
in Japan a 3 star is nice, you get a bag of goodies and treated well
>>2794888thank you for the input
Is 2k a month a reasonable budget for a decent stay in Tokyo and having a little fun? Not including flights.
What are the best times of year to go, if I want to do a ~90 day stay?
>>2794895it'll be hard. you have to do capsule or hostels to lower accommodation costs as much as possible. and eat cheap as well.
40 dollars for room per night
20 dollars for food per day
10 dollars for transport per day
$70 x 30 = $2100
doable...but i think its too low anon
>>2794894sorry for the rushed thoughts
the other thing too is are you going to land in HND (assuming) and take a Shinkansen right to Osaka/ Kyoto?
The easy thing if you are spending a week in Tokyo is that there's a lot to see, and it's frankly cheaper than Kyoto (not Osaka though), but way more friendly for a first time visitor.
Like you will want to spend more time in Tokyo because of the large amount of things to do (it's huge) alone, whereas Osaka in my opinion felt more like a working city, with some stuff to do by Dotonbori and a few shopping streets, but more mundane.
Kyoto has temples and a lot to see, but you can see a lot of it in a few days (1 week max in my opinion, and if you are shorter on cash it is more expensive, even just the accommodation tax.)
I also don't know if you want day trips, but if you are going to be in Kyoto/Osaka you should definitely see Nara, do not get food for the deer though they will bite you (t. bit)
If you want to see more of the Japan seen in photos, I would go to Shinjuku/Shibuya and walk around the city. It's incredibly safe. Like get out of Tokyo St., walk to the Imperial Palace/Garden thing, and just walk in the direction of the Tokyo Tower (Eiffel Tower) like its the North Star, you'll see stuff. Same with walking from Shibuya to Gotokuji, it's not only a pretty walk but you cross over a lot of more local shopping areas with good cafes and food.
Kyoto is a lot of tourism, and its only industry is tourism. Osaka felt more city to me outside of Dotonburi area, and the Aquarium is great, and Universal is cool (my gf loved it), but outside of that it just has less to do than Tokyo while feeling a lot of the same (It isn't a full week this third trip for that reason).
One more thing but these are the things I would do again if I could / visiting first time.
Gotokuji Temple (tokyo), Nara (osaka/kyoto), Arashiyama (kyoto), Hamarikyu Gardens (Tokyo), Rainbow bridge, Museum of Housing, Fuji Q
>>2794895if you only take local trains and eat at cheap restaurants, yes.
that's 10k yen a day, a meal for one is like 2k a day if cheap (or 1.2k if machine kinda place), maybe 140-280 yen per transportation
the biggest costs for me wasn't food, it was arcades, amusement parks, Shinkansen ($150-$200 to Osaka from Tokyo for instance) and some other stuff imo
plus it depends on what you buy and what you want
drinks are expensive and can add up, if you're going to drink a decent amount, and do stuff I still think you'd be fine
>>2794895>>2794901forgot to add but the cheapest stay if you're not staying longtime is DiCE Internet cafes, capsule hotels can be more expensive than some cheap hotels too so just look, but money will be tight if you're not including outside money for accommodation outside of the 2k, if you're staying 90 days id get a job at Ichiran or something lol
>>2794898>>2794901I see a lot of medium term rentals in the $1000-$1200 a month range on AirBNB. Are there hidden fees or is it just cheaper to book an entire month? Looking at day to day prices on hotels, it would cost much more to do that.
I can't do a capsule hotel because I have to work remotely.
I guess that leaves me with $800 a month which is $26.66-$30 a day or ~3800-4300 yen. That's not a lot, but the $2k figure was just for accommodations, food, and local transport.
I'm aiming for $2500 a month after everything (including activities or whatever), but max $3000. Is that more doable?
>>2794906if you dont need to be in the city center you can find a cheaper Airbnb, and longer stays are cheaper. i was assuming you were going out to eat like a tourist, but assuming you buy cheap groceries and cook at home you can definitely eat pretty cheaply. i think 2500-300 is a lot more doable.
>>2794906accommodation tax (x amount per day), typically included in AirBNB pricing
just think about laundry, otherwise no hidden fees
if you are not taking the Shinkansen don't get JR pass, just do local trains, walk, or bike
if you don't wanna eat cheap id honestly just halve your trip, so 2 weeks
youll have a better time not worrying abt money for 2 weeks and its long enough imo than stressing abt cash for a month
or just eat every other day lol or eat cheap
I spend like 1.2-2k yen per day for food / drink but I eat once a day and just hit more local places, id budget for like 3-4k yen a day if its your first time and then youll def have excessive

Is Enoshima worth visiting? It might be silly to go there simply because my favorite anime is set in the surrounding area, but the gardens around the Sea Candle and the shrine seem cool. Not sure if anyone has visited the caves? I'm planning my trip for October, so it's not like I'll be able to enjoy the beach that much and the light show in the gardens isn't happening until December.

Which Japanese city has the best diverse variety of East Asians living in it? Iโm just interested in East Asian culture in general and was hoping I could find a Japanese city that ISNโT Tokyo that has some presence of different part of East Asia.
>>2795096Hokkaido is really nice in the summer. A lot of the stuff requires a car but Sapporo, otaru and Hakodate are easily accessible and quite nice. I was in Hakodate for 2 days in late July and the temperature was perfect, around 25 celsius with a nice breeze. Sapporo as a city can be a little boring but between those 3 places you could probably do a week pretty easily
>>2795104Sweet thanks

Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Himeji, Nagoya. In hindsight I didnโt explore as much as I should have. Really wish I spent a week in Kyushu or went up to Kanazawa and Nagano.

I found this brochure online for people wanting to climb Fuji for any route that is NOT the Yoshida trail.
It looks like you don't have to to pre-register, but on the day you will have to register in person before climbing. You should be hanging out at 5th station for a bit before climbing to acclimatize anyway, so I will probably do that.
https://www.fujisan-climb.jp/en/Regulation_Shizuoka.html
I think not pre-registering makes the most sense to me, cause if you pay in advance, you cannot cancel or refund the payment - nor change the date after confirmation. And since I got screwed over previously with a typhoon on the day I wanted to climb, I'm not willing to risk having a bulletproof itinerary on the weather, or any other outside factor.
I think this is the last time coming in summer

I went to Japan in December of last year, solo, and loved it. Was the best thing I'd ever decided to do, full stop.
Went for 2 weeks last time and this year I'm planning to go for 31 days. I'm struggling between retreading the steps I made last year, but going a bit slower and more methodical, seeing places I missed, or just completely going on a different route. Does anyone here have any advice?
>>2795432If you want my advice, i would say do a little of both. Retrace your steps but put them in a little deeper, and also explore some new places that draw your interest, and it that doesnt work, follow your heart!
>>2794997>>2795100I've only looked at one school, so this might not be true everywhere, but I glanced at a Japanese language school in Okayama and there were a lot of SEA students. 2/3rds are Nepalese for some reason. >>2795432Feels like I suggest this once per week, but it might be neat to drop by your city's sister city if you've got one. The city's international bureau(might be one guy who's half fluent in English) does think it is cool as shit when you drop by to say hi, and the rest of the city hall certainly won't complain. I went drinking with them, but I was also there as part of a delegation from my city so they did roll out the red carpet a tad.
>>2795442My sister City is really small, but that was one of the first things I thought of as well. I think I might do it.
Holy shit, it's actually an interesting place, was where Japan built their first nuclear reactor.
>>2795443My sister city is where I started really researching Japan. I started looking at the prefecture after that, then I found a news station that covers the prefecture and another next to it, and now I'm slowly chewing my way through the entire Chugoku region on wikipedia. I wouldn't have even close to the level of appreciation I do if it weren't for the sister city delegation.
>>2795438I'll consider the day trips. When I was in Japan last year, I stayed as far away from the real touristy regions, for most of my trip I stayed in either a residential region of eastern Tokyo or Fukuoka, alongside a 3 day trip to Iki Island. I didn't see a single foreign besides myself for 85% of the trip, barring one incident in which I encountered a literal pack of Chinamen. See picture.
I'm not opposed to going to Osaka or the other more well trod conventional routes but I really want to live Japan, not treat it like an amusement park. I'll definitely think about the day trips though, since I didn't go on a single one last time.

What are the best day trips from Tokyo. Even an overnight works.
I'm planning to finally climb Mt. Fuji this year before they close it off for winter. I don't really care about seeing the sunrise; my only concern with time is making it on time to the train to go home so I'd like to descend before too late.
How much money does it cost to climb itself (excluding transportation from home to the nearest train station)? Is entry/climbing itself free?
How long does it generally take to climb?
Should you rest in one of the lodges over night to split up the climb? Or is it doable in one go? How much does the overnight stay cost if you do?
How physically demanding is it? I haven't exercised a lot. I'm in ok condition but should I do some cardio or exercise first? My gf suggested maybe she wants to go to, but she fatigues very easily (getting to Disneyland and walking for like an hour makes her need to stop and rest). I'm struggling with if I should tell her to just not go.
How much does the temperature drop? Should I bring like a winter coat and shit even if its hot as balls at sea level?

If someone is obsessed with Japan and has been to most prefectutes, but has never visited Korea or China and doesn't care about them, is xe a fake Japan-enjoyer? Sure, Japan is obviously the superior culture, but Korea and China have a lot of history and offer so much context for Japan that it's kinda silly not to have seen say the Gyeong bokgung, Haeinsa Temple or Susoseowon in Korea or the Xian Mausoleum, Forbidden City, Summer Palaces, Confucius' birth town or the Suzhou gardens at least.

Does anyone know anything about Takehara, over by Hiroshima?
I've been in Japan since the beginning of June and my girlfriend (foreign) was bugging me about it.
She says there's good sake there.
Is there anything else though?
I'd really hate to go out of the way from Tokyo just to be bored by some town you only go to for the vibe.
It looks pretty, but I really want to know if it's worth it.

>>2795151>almost $30 just to walk up a mountain one timewhen did the chinese take over japan with this bullshit?
>>2795875Where can i get this view
Preferably riding alongside it with a bike
>>2795932when foreigners became a problem a problem on the mountain and have been carelessly hiking without preparation and it doubles as a mean of crowd control. Have you heard about that Chinese guy who got stuck on Mt. Fuji, then had to be rescued via helicopter? Well, that same retard had to go back to Fuji again to find his smartphone and then had to be helicoptered out of there again. It is that kind of bullshit. Also, from what I'm reading (as I'm also one of those retarded foreigners who plan on hiking Mt. Fuji this year) is that the Yoshida trail is crowded as fuck, which is a problem if you're hiking at 2 am to see the sunrise
>>2795726You're lucky I caught this post as I'm preparing for my hike in late August. I can only speak for the Yoshida trail which is the easiest of the four. But tl;dr version is it isn't possible based on your requirements
>How much money does it cost to climb itself (excluding transportation from home to the nearest train station)? Is entry/climbing itself free?lol no. it is 4000 yen per person for either the Fujinomiya trail or the Yoshida trail. Based off of your later question, I don't even suggest you go on the other two trails due to lack of accommodations.
>excluding transportation from home to the nearest train stationIf you're coming from Tokyo, I heavily suggest you buy a round trip ticket in advance. This WILL bite you if you're not careful.
> How long does it generally take to climb? For the Yoshida it is seven hours ascend. But like three hours descend. However, this does not include breaks taken in between. You'll need breaks due to adapting to altitude sickness
>Should you rest in one of the lodges over night to split up the climb? Or is it doable in one go? Depends honestly. I've heard people splitting this climb to three days (two nights) mainly because the crater tour is pretty time consuming amongst other things (like heading back via the Gotemba route for additional sightseeing). It might be doable in one go, but that's not something many encourage and bullet climbing is definitely not encouraged.
cont.
>>2795953>How much does the overnight stay cost if you do?For mine (and I'm staying at a hut on the 8th station) it cost 12000 yen per person. However, it is too late for you. All the huts on the 8th station of the Yoshida trail have long been reserved. Yeah, you literally need to have this shit planned like back in February and then find out when huts are open for reservation and then take it when you get a chance. I looked at all the huts on all the reservation dates when they came live. I only came back with one and it isn't even the date I want to go hike the damn place.
>How physically demanding is it? I haven't exercised a lot. I'm in ok condition but should I do some cardio or exercise first? My gf suggested maybe she wants to go to, but she fatigues very easily (getting to Disneyland and walking for like an hour makes her need to stop and rest). I'm struggling with if I should tell her to just not go.It isn't physically demanding from what I've read if you go at your own pace and take enough breaks, but in my opinion, you won't be as aware of how bad your condition will be due to altitude sickness even if you're fit and if you're not fit, I can imagine it would make it even more painful as you might not be as well aware of your physical limitation. I seriously do not suggest your gf to go.
>How much does the temperature drop? Should I bring like a winter coat and shit even if its hot as balls at sea level?I spend like 10 USD for weather data on the top of Fuji. It is fucking wild. Like the weather is unpredictable. You can have days on the summit where it will with clear skies and then days where there can be rain, fog, heavy rain, and even rare occasion, light snow. Winter coat is one thing, but you should be treating this place like an alpine environment and prepare when needed. Also, you're forgetting wind. So your winter coat isn't going to protect you from wind seeping down through your neck. Better get a scarf.
cont.
>>2795954One last thing is this.
>I don't really care about seeing the sunrise; my only concern with time is making it on time to the train to go home so I'd like to descend before too late. This isn't possible and you're taking this part too lightly. Assuming you're in Tokyo and going only by train, it takes easily two hours to get from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko station by train and then you need to take a bus to one of the Mt. Fuji 5th station which is another hour. The Fuji Excursion is a limited express only runs like five times a day and even if you did get onto the earilest one you won't get to the 5th station until easily 10 am, and since the last train leaves at...let's say 6 pm, which means you have like five hours to hike up Mt. Fuji and back which is impossible.
tl;dr. Your hike isn't possible. You'll have to try again some other time.
tfw one of the rokusan angel dancers gave me her number after the show
>>2795956The bus timetable has been updated in last two weeks, should have plenty of time to do it in a day if you get on at the closest station. Assuming you're properly prepared.
Only applicable for Yoshida and Fujinomiya.

>>2795963>My problem is I want to have a decent breakfast before I climb Couldn't you just eat heavy the night before and get a light breakfast from the conbini instead?
>>2796009Because it's an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast that I've already paid for in the hotel price, plus a few munchables I could steal. I would assume I'm not the first person to do this and the hotel would have some sort of provision for early travelers. But I got no way of knowing until I get there.
>>2795999Itโs kind of funny, and itโs a novel thing to try. Itโs weird walking into a 7/11 and seeing an entire fridge full of weird oriental supplement drinks and vitamin pouches.

>>2795877Do you mean a day trip from Tokyo to visit the old town of Takehara?
I've been to Akiba 3 times now and I've noticed something.
The streets are littered with maid cafe girls and they are largely ignored by most people, I notice every now and then they only rope in some fat dude or drunk person. I have now climbed around 20ish towers and have observed they are all packed with young men spending hundreds of dollars on anime/vtuber merch. The people here would rather drop big money on plastic butts than pay to hang out with real girls. Quite based if I say so myself.

Planning on going to Japan soon. Is staying in a cheap hostel/guesthouse a good idea?
>>2795868> I wanna visit Hong KongI came back from there back in May. I don't think you should. Hong Kong is pretty much just a glorified shopping mall. It is also hot and humid as fuck. If you want somewhere peaceful and isolated in that place, you're pretty much going to have to take a several hour bus ride to like a remote beach onto the other side of Hong Kong Island and that's a several hour timesink. But hey, if you're into shopping then go for it.
>>2795253Yeah it's true. Overbooking has been happening since mid last year. The recommendation in the Asian travel circle is to call ahead to the hotel 3 days before the check in date to confirm they have your reservation on file.

>>2795291Many factors. Pre-2010s Whisky (Scottish Single Malt) was really affordable in comparison to the work/time that went into making it and then prices soared. I remember getting a bottle of Macallan 12 yo sherry oak for ~40โฌ when it was on sale. The same thing costs more than twice as much today. So you have this global whisky bubble with prices and demand growing rapidly combined with young companies (young in the sense that they were not around in the 19th century) which still do not have the endless stock of decade old barrels. Remember in order to have an 18yo Yamazaki you would have to have made it in 2007 and you simply cannot output 3 times as much and take out a massive loan for two decades as a gamble when the demand might not be there. Next reason is market structure. There are few distilleries that make whisky like this in japan and they are only competing against each other with a consumer market that buys up everything they put out immediately. So they can just put on a stupid price tag since enough buyers will just pay. Same story with any limited product. Now you might think we have been in this bubble for over a decade and other companies are hitching onto this train starting new distilleries and putting pressure onto this market and this is true but they are not yet there with the quality and age of their barrels. Also the demand hasn't shown any sign of slowing down. In fact the opposite seems to be the cause with India and China entering the bracket of luxury consumers who are thirsty for all kind of luxury products the world has to offer today. You might think these people are poor and you are right, most are. But if you have almost 3 billion people in these two countries and an upper class that can afford these expensive product you will statistically just have millions of consumers flooding in and buying out.

Where can i talk about japan more interactively?
How do i save money on an april trip?
Everything gets more expensive, flights, stays, even tickets and events during april.
For anyone who has taken non-reserved buses from Kawaguchiko / Fujisan / Gotemba / Shin-Fuji or Fujinomiya to their respective 5th stations (and back), is there a possibility they can sell out or the bus becomes too crowded if you're not there early enough?
>>2796112I took a bus from fujisan station to gotemba in april at (i think) 10am. Didn't pre book and it wasn't full at all, had a seat to myself and space for luggage.
Ride did almost make me feel sick though, but thats on me for looking at my phone for a decent bit of it.
If you're wanting to go from tokyo to fujisan station then im not your guy to ask. I took a local train instead of a rapid on accident. The special express you need to prebook tickets and i couldnt wait till 3pm for the next one. I'm pretty okay at Japanese and I've been a few times. Back when I had friends we were able to have some encounters with locals that were pretty fun, but I've been getting more reclusive and weird as I'm getting older and uglier.
And I'm not even talking about picking up chicks or any stupid shit like that, I mean just drunkenly talking about whatever with anyone. Do you find that random dudes at bars are generally pretty reserved and just going about their day or are there a good amount that are open to entertaining a retarded gaijin such as myself in exchange for me being retarded or something? Going back in August, kind of excited. I'm really too poor to regularly go to bars here at home so I like to splurge on stuff when I'm in Japan.
AIYEEEEEE FUCKKKK I CANT DECIDE IF I SHOULD GO GET THE RAIL PASS AND GO TO KYUSHU OR TO TOKYO I HAVE NO WHERE TO STAY IN KYOYO FUCK
>>2796291And it shows rain for the next days. Can I take this serious? So no cycling plans?
Planning on going March 10th-April 10th 2026
Is it really crowded during sakura season?
>>2796286I'll be honest, my Japanese is conversational, but pretty basic (N3 JLPT level). Despite that, I have managed to get along with the people pretty OK, and I feel like they like you more because you are a foreigner. I do struggle understanding to people who slur their speech and speak really fast though. That sucks.
If I could go back to my last trip, I would definitely be more confident in speaking to random people at bars, especially the bartenders. I was pretty reserved last time and I lost a few oppotunities to socialize, make friends, etc... there.
Also make sure you have a LINE account lmao
>>2796286Also if any bartender asks if they you can buy them a drink, be hesitant about that. Some bartenders will go overboard and buy $60 shots, because they think you are a rich foreigner lmao. I don't mind it much, but holy fuck dude.
>>2796152>fly into Japan first, then branch to other countriesDo you return to Japan?
Customs doesnt care?
I went to Japan for a month last winter
And want to go for a month this fall
And then do a month this winter and fly to Thailand, and then back to japan for a month
Im just wondering if they will bust my balls about the whole 90/180 tourist visa stay? Someone said its kinda like doing visa runs in Thailand and keeps resettting and they will only bust your ballsack if you do it for years etc
>>2796304>>2796303Preciate the tips. Never had a bartender ask me to get him a drink, good to know.
>I do struggle understanding to people who slur their speech and speak really fast thoughSame.
Yeah i think i can forget the 7 day trip with this wetter going on now
>>2796338It was common when I was there. People who are older than you (senpai) will also buy drinks for you. It was great. Happened to me like 4 times
>>2796307It depends. I usually don't, but I returned last year from Taiwan(in between a previous stay in Japan) and they just stamped my passport again at customs. There wont be an issue if you do it once in a year, but yeah I've heard that they're allegedly cracking down on people who do it over and over to stay in Japan indefinitely. I think you'll be fine in your situation.
>>2795442holy shit you just unlocked a core childhood memory
>sister city is Kyoto>Kyoto government decides to donate an ENTIRE HOUSE to Boston as a gift>Boston government puts it inside of the Children's Museum>went to the museum for a field trip back in the 1st grade right was I was starting to become interested with Japan and spent almost the entire time in the house>the experience pretty much solidified my desire to visit Japan and I've been there 3 times since.
>>2796112I second this question since climbing season starts in 2 weeks.
You guys probably get this question every week, but I want to do a 1 month stay in Japan next year, tentatively late summer. I'm told humidity is insane but I'm willing to give it a shot. I want to stick to rural areas and travel north-south or south-north by train, should I start working on learning some basic japanese or will I be good with just english?
any advice for tired feet? My feet hurt so much. I can't do shit anymore. Just switched hotel today and just lying around right now because I can't walk.
Any Japanese super medicine?
>>2796447Yeah.
Onsens obviously. Duh.
>>2796448in this heat?
also cooling is better than heating no?
>>2796446English is fine you donโt need to talk to anyone. 99% of interactions will be someone providing service. Just learn the basics like please and thank you and they will appreciate it
>>2796447Take a bath. They sell bath salts at the konbini. Maybe Advil too
Anybody here visited the expo in osaka?
Is it true that even if I buy a ticket I can't choose the pavilons which I want to visit, they will give me the pavilons which I can attend through a lottery?
>>2796447You should see a doctor.
>>2796447How many steps are you doing? I keep a 3ds in my backpack to get streetpass and count steps because i uninstalled the pedometer on my phone because it was usually 0 every day...
And as the other anon said onsens do wonders (not sure about summer heat though)
>>2796463Some popular pavilions require advance reservations and may be selected by lottery on certain days.
Why don't you check the official Expo website?
>>2796479>How many steps are you doing?idc
I be out like 6 hours and rest for 12 hours. Kyoto had shit train connection so I walked 15 minutes to the places or used scooter/bike the last 3 days. last year I was out for 10-12 hours and it wasnt this bad

>>2796488Foreign travelers are not covered by Japanese health insurance and must pay the full 2,820 yen for the consultation fee.
(I think I heard that the fee is doubled for uninsured foreigners, but I am not sure if this is true or not.)
But if you see a doctor, he can write you a prescription for the appropriate medication.
If you have travel insurance, you can get discounts for medical treatment, hospitalization, medicine, etc.

>>2795805Kifune is pretty chill, and you can do the hike anon mentiones at
>>2795820Nara is also nice, plenty of temples in the park, and the city is pretty quiet and full of interesting small places.
>>2796526There is a one-hour trekking course from Kibune to Kurama and a three-hour trekking course from Kurama to Hieizan
Trekking shoes should be worn when walking these courses.
>uns puts Tesla to 215$ target 3 hours ago
>Tesla does +10%

I'm Asian (American-born Chinese). Is that a debuff for Japan tourism?
>>2796535Did the Kibune to Kurama one. Yes, you should have Trekking shoes, or just confortable walking shoes. Once you get to the top, the down path is pretty chill. Its a shame the temple was under repairs when i went there.
>>2796563Probably. I'm a whitoid and I stand out pretty hard when I'm in less touristy areas and I am not a fan of standing out. They'll probably pick up on the fact that you're a tourist in other ways but I imagine it makes things a little more comfortable.
When I enter a restaurant alone as a white man, they're probably thinking "gross gaijin LBH, LBH piggu go home." But at least when you enter a restaurant, they're probably thinking "stupid chuugokukei gaijin criminal go home" which is preferrable IMO
Gonna be in Okinawa for a week in July and this I planed so far:
>stay at hotel in Kokusai street as a hub
>eat really good Okinawan food (soba, sushi, etc.)
>buy Orion shirts as souvenir, maybe one of those miniature lions too
>take speedboat daytrip to Zamami for some beach fun
>take bus to American Village
>skip that famous aquarium because I'm not so interested in seeing live fish
>maybe add another speedboat day
The Japan I wanted, the Japan of the 2000s internet - no longer exists. This fantasy world I wanted to escape to no longer exists, and I don't even know if it existed in the first place or if it was just a PR fabrication
I no longer feel the warmth in my soul when consuming the Japanese media that used to light my spirit, and the more I learn about the real Tokyo and the more Japanese I learn, the less intrigued I become and the less excited I am to go over there
And yet I'm still spending hours every day trying to master Japanese, I still plan to buy a one way plane ticket to Tokyo and live off my savings until some freak of nature miracle makes things work out for me.
Because I'm the kind of mentally ill sperg that never has the humility to give up on dreams that don't make sense. Because I have nothing else going for me and life at home is a slow suicide
Knowing what I want, I'd be way happier in LATAM but I'm doing all this because I can't shake Japan even though I KNOW I'll never find what I'm looking for there

yeah... japan sucks or something, well I'm only interested in the mountains and the rivers, I was looking at that capsule hotel thing and the apa hotels, are they any good?
>>2796616>I have nothing else going for me and life at home is a slow suicideThis is your problem. I still learn Japanese but think it is very pointless. I do it to justify playing video games in my 30s since it makes me feel like I'm doing something worthwhile and sharpening my mind rather than rotting.
You do sound like a massive loser so I believe you will have a bad time in Japan. You need to find purpose and meaning at home before you will find contentment elsewhere. You will not be able to run from your failures and will just be a bigger failure abroad.
>>2796563I have no idea if the locals can spot a Chinaman on sight but I had one or two instances of "sorry no english" and being shooed out of a restaurant on sight as a European. I guess it might also happen to you when it shows you can't speak Japanese, though.
>>2796625>I had one or two instances of "sorry no english" and being shooed out of a restaurant on sight as a European.that happens even if you speak broken japanese?
>>2796626Yes, actually in one of the (two) instances I had called "sureishimasu" (as people often do there when there's nobody at the counter) and the guy had replied "hai", immediately came over from the kitchen and then his face just turned upside down when he saw it was a gaijin. I don't hold it against him though, this was near Shinjuku Station so I imagine he's had some bad experiences with tourists or something.
>>2796629I see broken japanese will not save me from getting kicked out of a place, I am planning to stay near kitasenju because a singer I like used to live there and I want to see several places he frequented, I guess I can at least take some pictures

>>2795237>>2796037I just paid for a Toyoko Inn in Osaka on booking.com. I got confirmation emails, receipts and a message from the hotel itself.
Booking.com is owned by the same company that owns Agoda which was mentioned by name as a source for concern.
How boned am I?
>>2796644Did you get an email from the hotel directly (from the hotel's domain), or the confirmation via booking.com?

Yeah, I'm boned.
>>2796650Just call the hotel directly. Their staff probably speaks English.
>>2796652Surely there's an easier way to confirm. I'm booking like 9 hotels for my trip and my e-sim won't have a number included.

Not super likely but something to keep in mind nevertheless. Just get proper travel insurance so youโre covered if flights get fucked up, itโs pretty cheap.

>>2796750I'm planning on heading to Saitama for le spooky July 5 prediction.
I know 90% its a nothingburger but I wanted to see some anime sites in the area anyway.
I have 2 weeks left and dont know what to do anymore
Coming for 3 weeks the second year in a row was a mistake
They even sell the same figures and shit from last year
I kinda grow out of anime merch. Had still 3 packs of gunpla waifus and robots unopened from last year and didnt even display the bunny girl figures. Even nintendo store sells the same shit.
And the weather kinda sucks. And everything is super expensive even though the yen keeps losing value
>>2796823>They even sell the same figures and shit from last yearhave you checked AmiAmi?

>>2796895The upper floors are now open. Their merch might seem expensive but it's on par with market values. I was there last week and a good chunk of it was unopened figurines with the boxes still in great condition.
>>2796631For my first trip to Japan, what helped me was reaching out to my hotel concierges and having them book restaurant reservations for me. I didnโt realize until I got there that all the places they booked for me had someone there who spoke decent enough English. I also saw in Osaka and Kyoto people get turned away from the restaurants I was dining at, but it clearly was because of reservations since they let me in there. You may get turned away if you just walk in, but book ahead and youโll have no trouble at all
>>2796421>but yeah I heard theyre cracking down on people who do it over and over to stay in Japan indefinetelyThanks bro, yeah i dont imagine they would see me staying 30 days in the fall, and then days days in the winter , then leaving for 20-30 days and then returning for about 30'days
And really the main reason for returning back to Japan at the final stay is so I can use the round trip tickets return , and for it to be a comfy direct flight instead of some crazy lay overs and shit
>>2796751Thx but looks like a day trip not a beach trip
>>2796905The price range is crazy across akiba

>>2796928Thanks anon its pretty good timing. Im looking at the schedule and their forecasting it to be early march in Kawazu. Which will line up to where Im off.
>>2796902There's a bathroom with glass windows so you can take a leak while being on-top of Osaka. Worth it at night
>>2796925I noticed that too, it's odd too because some stores had some figurines cheaper and some figurines more expensive than other stores. I'm glad I did a lot of browsing before buying anything so I could get a general grasp on what market prices are like. Should I stay in Setagaya or Shinjuku for my first week in japan?
Main goals is to check out some record stores (maybe in shibuya) and see jimbocho eventually
Oh and is shimokitazawa worth checking out
Would be nice to stay in a semi chill area with good food convenience around and near good stations
>>2797006i would say shinjuku because it is much more connected honestly. the only thing is shinjuku can be a bit seedy and busy. maybe look into nakameguro, asakusa, ueno, kanda, Akasaka, shimbashi areas. shimokita is cool on the weekends, if you want to see cool little cafes, thrift stores and restaurants shimokita is exactly that.
>>2797006Shinjuku isnt semi chill. If you want good food/convenience try a slightly smaller station, one station away. Everything immediately around Shinjuku station is gonna be busy as fuck. I wouldnโt really recommend staying there unless youโre there for the nightlife. Same with shibuya.
I donโt know where the music scene so youโll have to look into that on your own. Thereโs good food everywhere, and as long as youโre near a train station itโs super easy to get around.
Ueno is kind of nice, good eats. Busy as fuck during the day but it quiets down at night
Which beaches do they go to in anime when they take the train on the beach episode
>>2797048It's obviously the beach called UMIDA
>>2796616Hehe same. Starting as a teenager always checking the Japan travel books in the store, sucking in each picture imagining being there. Watching all Japanese movies that appear on TV. Being a weeb before even knowing that word/meme. Eating 50 cent instant ramen thinking it's the real thing. Then later spending hours watching "tokyo night drive pov videos" on youtube or livestreams of railways. Simply magical. The first times being there it still had this magic. Dreams finally came true. The food, the people, the architecture, the sounds, etc. spot on amazing. Came home being depressed because I wanna be back so much.
Now after years of constant travel to Japan I feel like I've seen it all. I've tasted all foods (and with time you notice patterns of how everything tastes the same). Now it's so hyped up among normies.. everyone wants to go there. It's not the same as it was before. But I think that's something one need to accept. We grow up with that magic dream in the head but in reality it's just another country with the same people. Just in a different context, with some different cultures and views. Also part of leaving childhood.. I guess adult life is just more boring because our mind adapts more easily. I try to concentrate more on the small things now. Local artists, natural food. Small details can easily be very lovable and unique.

Is nakano generally good?
>>2797094Big fan of the whole Chuo line, Nakano, Koenji, Kichijoji, etc. Easy to access Shinjuku, Tokyo station, Akihabara, etc. Good choice
I fucked up.
I'm leaving tomorrow.
I have no idea how I'm going to deal with my luggage when I go from Osaka to Fuji Five Lakes. This part of the trip was poorly planned, it's such a pain to get to for a two day trip...I still don't understand how I'm going to get there or how to book these bus tickets online (or if the small 40lb suitcase will even fit on the express bus!).
I don't understand IC cards. If I buy Suica, can I still use it in the Fuji Five Lakes area? Or Osaka?
>>2797131Also, will small suitcases be permitted on something like a Fujikyu bus?
I thought travel would be easy. I'm a fucking idiot. I can't believe I sunk $10k into this.
>>2797131A suitcase that large SHOULD be fine. You are an idiot for waiting until now to figure this shit out. A Suica card should work fine in Osaka and the Five Lakes.
Do more research next time, retard, especially when you dump that much cash. Five Lakes is a great spot though, have fun!
>>2797154Itinerary:
- Two days on Naha
- Five days on Ishigakijima
- Six days in Osaka
- Two days in Oshino Village
- Six days in Tokyo
I'm confident in everything except the Oshino part. And worried the Peach flight from Ishigaki -> Osaka is gonna fuck me somehow.
Thank you for both being kind and justifiably calling me a retard.
>>2797158Just double check, everything I said unless you wanna be left in the jump on some strangers advice. Flights in Japan are simple, every is simple, though of course luggage complicates things.
If you ever decided to go to Japan again or have more time to plan? entertaining one bagging it. My first 16 day trip to Japan was with a single 40L bag and I was totally stress free, could bring it everywhere with 0 issue.
Have fun though, that's not a bad spread of locations. Have you signed up to any day trips/tour guides or are you doing everything yourself?
>>2797169Multiple tours.
My wife and I each have a single 40lb bag with us.
Really I'm just overreacting about the trip to Oshino. I can't find anything concrete about some of the local busses in the Oshino area but worst case scenario, we take an expensive as shit taxi from one of the other fuji train stations to the place in Oshino.

>I have no idea how I'm going to deal with my luggage when I go from Osaka to Fuji Five Lakes. If you are going to be checking shit out before checking into your hotel find a coin locker and leave your luggage in there.
>I still don't understand how I'm going to get there or how to book these bus tickets online (or if the small 40lb suitcase will even fit on the express bus!).Express bus tickets can be a little fucky because they are managed by different companies. I can't help you with going from Osaka to Fuji but just google your route and find out which bus company handles tickets. There will be a point A and point B, point A will usually be close to a train station and point B just has to be the closest to your hotel. Just find your route, enter your info and buy it. You will get a QR code by email and the bus driver will either scan it or just verify your details. These busses have room for luggage underneath and the drivers are very helpful.
>I don't understand IC cards. If I buy Suica, can I still use it in the Fuji Five Lakes area? Or Osaka? You can use your IC card pretty much everywhere, but there are apparently still lines that use paper tickets but I have yet to encounter them. If you are entering a train station with a place to scan an IC card there will be a place to scan your IC card on exit.
>>2797181You can travel without luggage if you have it delivered by Sagawa or Kuroneko.
Just go to the front desk of your staying hotel at the day before and leave your luggage there, and it will be delivered to your next destination the next day

>>2797292Because that manga? people really that stupid? The only fact we know from scientist is that there is a 90% chance of the big quake coming in the next 30 years. That's 1565 weeks. How many weeks you staying?
But I have to admit it's a constant fear of mine as well. I noticed some smaller ones in previous visits and it's damn spooky.
How is okinawa for 3 days? Anyone been and have advice on itinerary or where to stay?
Is Nabana no Sato worth visiting outside of the Winter Illumination periods?

Things that you cant get in murica and or would be expensive to import in
I may look for old jap mags for fun idk what else I should look out for thats unique to bring

what should I do? still stuck in Osaka. I wanted to do a Kyushu trip but I probably cant fit it in my schedule anymore and I am fucking busted. my body is exhausted already. but I want to at least do a comfy cycling day, have a beach day and visit an onsen city.
how do I fit this on my way to Tokyo?

>>2797542>not one goes to the beach hereThere's a very good reason why.
>beach>divingDog shit. There are places 10000 fold better and cheaper than Japan if that's what you're looking for.
The smaller islands are better, but once again, you're better off in Thailand/Indonesia/Philippines if you're already in East Asia.
I live in Tokyo and I've been to Naha and Miyakojima, won't be coming back again, would rather fly to SEA. The plane ticket costs will be offset by accommodation and all other expenses.
t. travel for diving only
>>2797544some of the best diving is in the red sea, believe it or not, i know the current geopolitics is fucking it up but still there are relatively cheap and amazing dives to be had in the red sea
>>2797544>There are places 10000 fold better and cheaper than JapanI dont get that logic
I already came here and I want to spent 1 day doing that. I wont fly 20 hours to Thailand to just dive/ beach. BUT I am already here in Japan where I can do it as well.
>>2797538Is awaji shima worth a day trip or even biking to?
Bros I feel so fucking depressed after leaving japan. Every trip it gets worse. I miss the shitty daytime TV, the random chatter of schoolgirls, even the sounds of that robotic train lady voice.
>>2797554Might be a good stopover as a relay point from Honshu to Shikoku.
Highlights include Nijigen no Mori, which anime otaku and children will love, and Awajishima Monkey Park, where you can see monkeys in the wild.
Awaji Island Monkey Center can be viewed via live camera.

>>2797878Consider how much time you'll actually be spending at the hotel and whether the price is worth it.
Hotels for me are a simple place to sleep, keep my luggage in a safe place, offer a decent location and have an unlimited breakfast available so I don't have to stop for lunch. I can justify spending less on hotels, but you might be different.

>>2798048If you're looking for beaches, the beaches in Numazu on the west side of the Izu Peninsula are beautiful.
West Izu is quieter and the sea is cleaner than in the more developed East Izu, but there are many rocky areas.
>>2797630For example, there is Oarai. The eastern coastline of Kanto is a long sandy beach that is usually open for swimming, but you can't enjoy shopping or dining there. The exceptions are Oarai and Kamogawa.
If you like Enoshima, you'll also like Yuigahama in Kamakura. There is also a sandy beach on the west side of Enoshima. It's quite fun to go to Tsujido.
People from Osaka go south to Wakayama. Nanki Shirahama is popular with them.

>>2798309Did you by any chance take a slow train from JR Chiba Station to Shinjuku? If so, you are wasting a lot of time.
Normally, one would take the Sobu Rapid from Chiba to Tokyo, then transfer to the Chuo Rapid at Tokyo to go to Shinjuku.
It takes a little over an hour, and the fare is the same as a local train.
Dumb question. I have read across different sites that a student visa requires proof that you have 2M yen in savings, but does that amount depend on the country or is the same for all of them?
