My best guess is just that Mario is way more popular than Luigi so more people are inclined to pick him; I’m not too sure about driver quality but the powerful Gold and Yellow miis are on Team Mario, plus Gold Mario (duh) for easier token grinding if people need to. But Team Luigi has an overall larger roster and arguably more powerful drivers such as Gold Chuck, the Wigglers, and Larry and Morton miis. It might also just boil down to Luigi having lost every single time in the past so people just pick team Mario for an obvious win, making a self-fulfilling prophecy situation where more people think team Mario will win so they join him and he wins
