I'll stand by what I said in the past, the game has been building up on how Dess has gone missing for years, not just that but that Carol knows way too much about everything that goes on
Stories need to have a build up from somewhere, it just won't magically unfold and people gape in awe over whatever rolled out, predictability isn't that bad and Toby maybe knows this as well, the problem comes when you know everything from beginning to end

Anyway, point being, people should be asking along the way about the Knight on motives, how does it know so much about dark fountains, how and why there's the armor, what is it made of and so on. Not use their autism superpowers of hyperfocusing on every minuscule detail ahead on anything else but identifying it and borrow the same board the green pippin uses for it and jump to conclusions
